Minneapolis and St. Paul pack in an outsized share of the country's biggest companies — Target, UnitedHealth, Best Buy, 3M, General Mills, U.S. Bancorp — and they're split between a compact, skyway-and-light-rail core and a wide ring of suburban office parks. There's one airport, MSP, sitting neatly between the two downtowns. So the Twin Cities question isn't the airport; it's which district, and whether the METRO light rail reaches your campus or you'll need a car.

MSP, the light rail, and the car question
One airport: Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP), between the two downtowns and about 15 minutes from either. The METRO light rail is the trick: the Blue line runs from MSP through the Mall of America and into downtown Minneapolis, and the Green line links the two downtowns — so for a downtown Minneapolis, Bloomington/MOA, or downtown St. Paul campus you can skip a car. But the western suburbs (Minnetonka, Golden Valley, Eden Prairie), 3M in Maplewood, and the northern suburbs (Arden Hills, Fridley) are off the rail and car-oriented. And don't forget the skyway — downtown Minneapolis is largely indoors, a real perk in a Minnesota January.
