Where to Stay for Business in Austin
Austin's biggest headquarters aren't clustered — they're on the lake, up in Round Rock, and out past the airport. “Where to stay” depends entirely on which one you're visiting.
Austin looks compact on a map, but its Fortune 500 headquarters sit in three genuinely different places, and the hotel that's perfect for one is a 45-minute commute from another. Book to the specific campus, not to "downtown Austin" as a reflex. One thing is constant: everyone flies into Austin-Bergstrom (AUS), southeast of downtown.
“In Austin, “where to stay” is really “which campus.” Get that wrong and the best hotel in the city is still the wrong one.”— Rachel Julian, Founder & Editor-in-Chief
What are Austin's business submarkets?
- Downtown / Lady Bird Lake
- The core: business hotels, dinners, and the closest base for Oracle and any downtown meeting.
- Rainey St / East Riverside
- Just southeast of downtown, across the lake from Oracle — walkable, hotel-dense, quick to the campus.
- North Austin / The Domain
- The tech-north submarket; the right base for Round Rock employers and far shorter than commuting up from downtown.
- Round Rock
- ~25–30 min north of downtown — a market of its own, where you stay if Dell is the reason you flew.
- Del Valle / airport southeast
- Far southeast by AUS; relevant mainly for Tesla's Gigafactory.
Where should you stay for each Austin HQ?
Oracle — southeast shore of Lady Bird Lake
On the water by downtown, despite the "southeast Austin" address. Stay downtown, Rainey Street, or East Riverside. Full guide: where to stay when visiting Oracle →
Dell Technologies — Round Rock
1 Dell Way, Round Rock — about 25–30 minutes north of downtown. Base yourself in North Austin, the Domain, or Round Rock itself, not downtown, or you'll spend the morning on I-35. (Full guide coming.)
Tesla — Giga Texas, Del Valle
1 Tesla Road, in Del Valle, far southeast and only a few minutes from AUS. Stay near the airport for a pure Giga visit, or downtown if you're pairing it with city meetings. (Full guide coming.)
What should you check wherever you land?
Submarket gets you close; the room still has to protect the work. Run any Austin hotel through the Sales-Ready basics — a real work surface, a quiet enough room, a lobby you'd host in — using the hotel details that decide the trip and the Sales-Ready Index.
The standard
In Austin, "where to stay" is really "which campus" — the lake, the north, or the far southeast. Match the submarket to the meeting, fly into AUS, and keep the commute off your morning. Pick the wrong side of town and the best hotel in the city is still the wrong one.
