Getting around San Antonio
San Antonio has one commercial airport and a genuine trap in how it is laid out. Rideshare and taxis work from the outer commercial curbside on the lower level of Terminal A, while the VIA bus stop is at the far west end of Terminal B. “Outside baggage claim” is not an answer here: it puts you at the wrong end of the building, and the two terminals are a walk apart.
Check the bus before you plan around it. VIA has published a detour since February 2026 stating that Route 7 is on detour with no service to San Antonio International Airport, while VIA’s own park-and-airport page still describes that express in the present tense. Two pages from the same agency describing different realities on the same day is a good reason to read the alerts feed rather than the marketing one.
SAT handled 10,740,694 passengers in 2025, down 3.2% on the 2024 record of 11,094,278. It is a rental-car market: the downtown core is compact and walkable, and everything else, including the medical centre and the northern corridor along US 281, is a drive.
Where to stay in San Antonio
Downtown is the right default here in a way it is not in Houston or Dallas. The River Walk district puts you within walking distance of the convention centre and most of the hotel supply, and San Antonio’s core is small enough that a central room genuinely removes journeys rather than just feeling central.
Stay north only if your meeting is north. The US 281 corridor is where much of the newer office space sits, and it is a drive from downtown that traffic decides.
