Where to Stay for Business in Charlotte
Charlotte is a compact banking core wrapped in office-park suburbs — and the LYNX light rail reaches Uptown but not much else.
Charlotte is a tidy banking town with a spread-out corporate ring. Uptown — the compact, walkable core — holds the marquee names (Bank of America, Truist, Duke Energy, Honeywell) and sits on the LYNX Blue Line light rail. But an equal share of the headquarters are out in the office-park suburbs: SouthPark, Ballantyne, the airport corridor, and Mooresville up on Lake Norman — none on the rail line. There's just one airport, so the Charlotte question isn't which airport; it's which district, and whether you'll need a car.

Charlotte Douglas, the LYNX, and the car question
One airport: Charlotte Douglas (CLT), a major American Airlines hub about 15 minutes west of Uptown. The LYNX Blue Line light rail runs through Uptown and south to South End — so for an Uptown campus you can skip a car (though the airport itself isn't on the rail; cab or rideshare in). Everywhere else — SouthPark, Ballantyne, the airport area, and Mooresville — is off the rail line and car-oriented, so rent a car. Decide the car question by the district, not by habit.
